Frequently Asked Questions
- Q - What is a self-assessment module?
- A - A self-assessment module is an assessment designed to help physicians evaluate their knowledge about a particular topic. The assessment uses a multiple-choice question format linked to key reference material.
- Q - How long will it take to complete a self-assessment?
- A - The actual time to complete a self-assessment is dependent on the individual user. The self-assessment is not a timed assessment, so you can take as much time as you like. You can also stop at any point in the assessment and save your progress; then you can resume the assessment at a later time. As an estimate, each question may take an average of 5 minutes to answer.
- Q - Do I have to complete a self-assessment in one sitting?
- A - No. You may exit a self-assessment at any time by clicking Exit Module near the top or bottom of the screen. (The button can be accessed at either location.) To re-visit and continue with this self-assessment, click MY ASSESSMENTS at the top of the screen, click on the name of the self-assessment, and then click Continue Module.
- Q - Can I retake the same self-assessment to achieve a greater score?
- A - It is not possible or necessary to retake a self-assessment for which you received a passing grade. You will receive credit for any self-assessment for which you answered all the items and achieved a passing score. You can, however, review the assessment results and questions. NOTE that ABP self-assessments require completion of all items, even if you achieve a passing score before answering all items.
- Q - Where can I see a list of my completed and uncompleted self-assessments?
- A - Click MY ASSESSMENTS at the top of the screen. This list will show the self-assessment Name, Start and Completion Dates, Score, and Status.
- Q - If I do not pass a self-assessment will I be given another opportunity to take the self-assessment?
- A - Yes. Click MY ASSESSMENTS at the top of the page, click on the self-assessment name, and then click the Retake Module button. You have two opportunities within a calendar year to receive a passing score.
- Q - How can I continue self-assessment I’ve already started?
- A - Click MY ASSESSMENTS at the top of the page. Self-Assessments that are not completed are listed as In Progress under the Status column heading. Click on the corresponding self-assessment Name, and then click the Continue Module button.
- Q - From within a self-assessment I clicked View Reference. How do I get back to the self-assessment?
- A - All Reference links are designed to open a new Web page. You may close the new page or use your browser’s feature to navigate back to the self-assessment page.
- Q - What is the Hold button and how is it used?
- A - The Hold button may be used after selecting an answer to a multiple-choice question. Selecting Hold will not Commit, and, therefore, will not score that question until the answer is committed. The Hold feature is useful if you would like to indicate an answer choice without risk, and come back to the question for later review.
- Q - I skipped some questions in a self-assessment. How can I easily find these skipped questions?
- A - There are two easy ways from within the self-assessment to quickly navigate to unanswered questions. (1) Click the View Test Results tab and click Unanswered, which is located near the top. This will display all unanswered questions. Then select the question you would like to answer. (2) Use the Jump to Question drop-down menu in the upper right hand corner of the self-assessment question interface. Then select the question you would like to answer.
- Q - I placed some questions on Hold. How can I easily find these held questions?
- A - There are two easy ways from within the self-assessment to quickly navigate to held questions. (1) Click the View Test Results tab and then click Held, which is located near the top. This will display all held questions. Then select the question you would like to answer. (2) Use the Jump to Question drop-down menu in the upper-right hand corner of the self-assessment question interface. Then select the question you would like to answer.
